In Hungary researchers revealed that the number of women who suffer from domestic abuse is more than 223,000 - which means that one in every five women suffers from abuse. Because it’s uncomfortable to share, many women don’t reveal they’ve been abused, so the actual number could be much higher. Very few abuse cases actually reach the police. The research also revealed that one woman dies from abuse each week. The laws that are in place are not suitable for providing professional protection for victims. Changing this is a public issue and professional steps have to be made to change this situation, which includes legal changes in the court. Some steps have been made, but they aren’t nearly enough. (Patent Association provides legal aid and psychological assistance to victims of violence and those whose reproductive rights are curbed. They are a group of women’s rights defenders; lawyers, psychologists, as well as gender-based violence experts.
