ICELAND
The social status of women in Iceland
Although Iceland has always been known to be the best place to be a woman due to our strict rules on equality in society, there are still flaws in our system. Violence against women has always been a problem, especially sexual violence. The University of Iceland conducted a study in 2018 and found that 1 in 4 women in Iceland have been raped or sexually abused and only 12% of women have reported their case. However, 3 out of 4 women whose cases are most often dismissed. Especially now in the pandemic, women and children are seeking help from domestic violence and sexual assault in their home. A lot of problems have emerged since the pandemic started and hence crime rates have risen. It's said to be because people are spending too much time at home and many people have lost their job and revenue which can cause depression and stress.
